Wednesday 10th October 2012 we checked out of our hotel on 7th Avenue and took a taxi ride to our Staybridge Suites on West 40th Street which was down past Times Square and two blocks West. Times Square was an easy walk. Our apartments were ready when we got there which meant we could move straight in. The rooms were great except the bathroom was small and the wardrobe room inadequate. The position was good and we had a view of the Empire State Building out of our window. We had our own kitchenette complete with microwave, ice maker and full refrigerator which was good. The apartments also had a large in house laundry with ample washers and dryers which were free of charge. Our breakfasts were complimentary - but not a lot of choice.
Wednesday and Thursdays they have a "Happy Hour"between 5 o'clock and 7 o'clock when food and drinks are free.
It was another cold and showery day so we decided to visit Central Park which turned out to be a good choice as the rain stopped and it was a cool but not unpleasant day to see the park. We hired two bicycles to ferry us around the park. Our two guides were very likable and showed us all around the most famous parts of the park and stopped from time to time so we could walk around the areas.
The traffic was hard to get used to as it is so constant and noisy. There are always horns blasting and sirens going and people always seem to be in a tearing hurry to get somewhere.
We walked back to our apartments in time for "Happy Hour"and were amazed at the presentation of food and choices of drinks that were free of charge. The meals would be considered snacks however we considered them ample for dinner. There is a downstairs lounge where all the food is served however we could have taken it upstairs to our rooms on the 19th floor if we wished.
The Concierge at the hotel was very helpful with directions and choices of things to do while we were in New York.
