Sunday 14th October 2012

Sunday 14th October 2012 was our last day in New York.  We had a full day scheduled having booked on a tour of Brooklyn and a visit to Ground Zero. Both of these had to be booked on line so the hotel's computer and printer were very handy.

We were recommended a tour called  "Slice of Brooklyn" so I booked our tickets on line from our hotel.  We needed to do that a few days in advance as it is a popular tour.  We had to walk for quite a while to get to the pick up point for the bus tour so we got to have a look at a different area of New York City. The bus tour was excellent as it is run by a Brooklyn Family and we were shown all the highlights of Brooklyn as well as some famous homes and film sites.  We stopped at two different places to try Pizza Brooklyn style and that was very good.  We enjoyed the tour and got back in time to catch a cab to take us to the Ground Zero site.

I also had to book tickets for ground Zero on line.  There was no cost involved but they needed correct names of all visitors and a nominated time that we wanted to visit.  I suppose they do it that way for security and crowd control.  Having reached the site it was not difficult to get in once we were past the security check.

It was very sobering to see the Memorial Pools and the wall where the Twin Towers once stood.  The area is still work in progress so there is a good bit of mess around while they are still building.  The two towers are still getting built and the Museum is still work in progress.  The park is looking a nice peaceful place and will be lovely when it is all finished.

We had a big day but it was worth the effort to see it all.  Then it was back to our hotel to do the washing and pack our bags for home.  We had to buy an other bag to carry home all of our extra shopping.  Fortunately we had a 30k bag allowance each which was helpful.

I loved New York, even with all it's noise and mass people.  It is a happening place full of action.  I could not live there but it is a great place to visit.
