Saturday 6th October 2012

Saturday 6th October 2012 was another huge day.  We left Lancaster at 8.00am and visited the farm of the Amish Family (Henry & Linda and their children).  It is a working farm and they showed us the animals that they breed and care for, the wood working shed, the vegetable gardens and the horse carriages they use to travel around in.

We travelled on to Washington DC and arrived there about 2.30 pm which gave us enough time to check out some of the Smithsonian Museums of which there are many.  The Museums are all huge and very intense with their displays.  I was very impressed with the volume and attention to detail in the two Museums we managed to have time to look in.  We had to go through a security check to get into each of the museums. It would take a good week to properly view all of the Museums as they are so huge.

The first Museum we chose was the Air & Space Museum which was full of authentic space equipment and aircraft through the ages.  If you are an aircraft buff or are interested in space travel this museum is a must see.  We spent a couple of hours there and only just touched the surface.

The other Museum we managed to see was the Natural History Museum where we got to see mainly the Mammal section before we had to leave to catch the bus back to the hotel. That evening we went out to dinner and then had a night tour of Washington viewing all the monuments lit up by night which was good viewing.
