Today was the "Gosford Townies" girls day of golf which was held at the Wyong Golf Club today Monday 10th September 2007. There was a cloud of doubt over the day not only because of the weather but because we had a mass fallout of entrants in the day for various reasons. Our 12 original possibilities were reduced to 5 on the day. The winner of the "best excuse" was Rhonda Fenwick who spent the last three days in Gosford Hospital with a shattered knee cap ( & more damage) after having a fall at The Entrance last Thursday. I visited Rhonda at Gosford Hospital on Saturday & after viewing her X-ray it was obvious that she was the worthy winner of "the best excuse for not turning up".
You have a TOBLERONE chocolate coming your way Rhonda & we wish you a speedy recovery.
(Rhonda bought a new set of golf clubs especially & was destroyed to think that she could not play on the day)
After some miserable weather on the weekend Monday emerged with blue sky and sunshine which left the remainder of our girls with no excuse so they turned up at the Wyong Golf Club in time to have "morning tea" with sausage rolls and scones, tea & coffee before hit off.
Considering all of our girls were newcomers to golf their performance was excellent.
The first hole was a learning experience with some really good shots from Vicky Woods.
Carolyn Morris amazed us by hitting the first two balls forward. By the fifth hole the girls were all starting to get a grip on the game and were not only hitting the ball forward but also in the middle of the fairway. Tosca Brand was hitting some good long drives & Sue Hodge was showing great signs of potential by the 9th hole. The course was very 'heavy' so the girls did well to hit the ball anywhere.
We all managed to do some good putting at some stage or another.
The sun shone brightly for us for the whole nine holes & everyone had a great fun time. We were covered in mud (see attached photo of Carolyn's shoes & pants which she wore into the clubhouse) but we were not deterred in any way.
Margaret Redman joined us for lunch at the 19th hole & we relayed to her our shot by shot performance.
At presentation - Sue Hodge won the best overall performance; Vicky Woods the Best Starter;
Tosca Brand the Longest Driver; Carolyn Morris the most unique style. We all got a Toblerone chocolate for having the courage to turn up.
Images: Various photos of us during the match today and at the 19th hole where we had lunch & "refreshments".
Later...... with Des & Yvonne Wilson who called around to see us after the golf day & stayed for Pizza Dinner and a wine or two.
