Another whirlwind week has just flown by. I seem to have been very busy every day - something to do with the silly season I suspect. Everything has to be done yesterday.
We have had a very hot week of weather with not much rain this time so the gardens are parched. A follow up story from last week's posting - the Drug Raid across the street ended up being part of the big drug raids in Sydney & one of the garages behind the units across the street was their drug lab. The fire truck was on stand by in case of chemical explosion. You can pick your friends but unfortunately not your neighbours.
Thursday 9th December 2010 we had a visit from Andrew Smith at 8.00am on his way through to Sydney. We had a group of F-Troopers arriving at 8.30 am to move a rock orchid from my garden to the Golf Club gardens. We had to leave Andrew to rest at home (as he had just driven from Armidale) while we transported the rock orchid. It took us a couple of hours to put the rock orchid garden together using my rock orchid plus moving some more from other gardens at the club. I was pleased with the end result and am looking forward to orchid flowering time next year. We were home in time for lunch with Andrew & then he went on his way to Sydney.
I did some more garden tidying in the afternoon while Peter went to the Club to do some work over there.
Friday 10th December 2010 I was up early to do some dead heading & weeding of the roses & then went shopping at Aldi's, Officeworks & Bunnings to gather bits & pieces that I needed.
It is time to replace the stocks & pansies so I bought some snapdragons & petunias. Now I have to find time to plant them.
Saturday 11th December 2010 we went grocery shopping early as Peter was going to golf. I worked the rest of the day at the golf club gardens & got home about 4.00pm which was a big day. It was Dale's 70th birthday today so I gave her a call to have a chat & found her celebrating in Sydney with the family.
Sunday 12th December 2010 we had Rod, Anne & Joel for their traditional Sunday breakfast. Joel "helped" me to put up the tree & we had some fun before we had to leave for golf at 10.30 am. Our playing partners today were Graham & Rae Brown who were wonderful company. Rae scored 41 points which was a good highlight for us. Unfortunately no highlights in my golf other than I finished with the same ball I started with. We stayed for dinner with Rae & Graham & we had a good night. Because we were using the golf cart we told Graham & Rae they could park in our car space for the day. Just as well we did as Rae spotted a car key on the ground which turned out to be our spare car key which I must have dropped there the day before. What good luck that was as it must have sat there in the car park from 4.00 pm on Saturday until they arrived on Sunday morning.
Monday 13th December 2010 I was stricken with "Silly Season" panic & woke up at 3 o'clock in the morning worrying about the Christmas Cards that I had not completed so I got up & finished them ready for the mail & then did all the ironing that had been building up. That depleted my worry list a bit. At 7.00am we went to F-Troop & had a big morning there cleaning up the place. I worked on the Native garden with Georgina which was a huge job but we got it looking respectable. After lunch I did a house clean & then went to the Post Office to mail the cards & also to pick up a "Tens" machine which I had ordered through the internet. It is a nerve stimulator which is good for inflamations, aches & pains. I have yet to use it as it had to be charged up before use. At 6.00pm I was back at the Golf Club with some of the F-Troopers to spend an hour and a half poisoning rogue grasses on the fairways. I was in bed early after this big day.
Tuesday 14th December 2010 I had an early 8.00 am start at golf. The weather has been so hot I decided to use the golf cart & my playing partner Barbara Stratford joined me as she has difficulty walking in hot weather. Our other playing partner was Yvonne Wilson & she has a golf trike which meant that we were all motorised. Barbara & Yvonne were great company & once again I was carried the whole day & in fact won a bottle of champagne for having the worst score of the day. Barbara & Yvonne played quite well and as it was Pro Shop Day Div 2 had to hit off the white markers which was challenging in places. Thankfully there was no handicapping.
I hurried home from golf to get the house ready for visitors. Peter was hosting a card evening with some of his mates. This group of eight play cards once a month at alternative homes which is quite a serious competition. The core group have been playing cards together since 1966.
Wednesday 15th December 2010 I was up early to plant out some new seedlings. It is time to take out the stocks & pansies & replace then with snapdragons & petunias. I managed to get the front garden done before it got too hot. I had a doctor's appointment at 11 o'clock so I picked some roses from my garden to take over for the girls. I had a well earned rest this afternoon.
It was a hot day today & the seedlings are looking a bit sad so I am off now to give them another water.
I am hoping for some rain tomorrow as I have the rest of the seedlings to put out & then I am off to the hairdressers for a refreshed hairdo.
