Thursday 2nd September 2010

I have been so busy this last week or so I had forgotten to update my blog until today.
The golf club has been my main focus as we have got the garden competition looming & the Pro Shop renovations have been demanding not to mention I have had to cram in a few golf games as well.
Tuesday 24th August 2010 we had one of our popular events at golf - the President Vs Captain Day which is fiercely contested. I was on the President's side & unfortunately we lost out on the day but it was all good fun. My playing partners on the day were Mary Ellis, Julie Hazzard & Chris Dekker. The weather held for us & we all had a lovely day. I won the "Vegetable tray" raffle which was an added highlight.
Wednesday 25th August 2010 I spent the day in the gardens at the Golf Club catching up with weeding around the putting green area & trimming some hedges etc.
Thursday 26th August 2010 I played golf even though it was a cold windy day. The course had plenty of run now that it had dried out a bit so it was much easier to play. My playing partners were Margaret Nichols and Felicity Mead & we had a nice day in spite of the wind.

Friday 27th August 2010 I spent the morning at the golf club planting out some more spring flowers that had been donated to the club. We had about 60 additional plants given to us so the garden has a good spring flower display for our upcoming "Spring Carnival" fun day next week.
In the afternoon paid our last respects to Brad Cook at Palmdale Memorial Gardens. Brad's son Martin was one of Greg's best mates from a very early age so we had known Brad & Kerrel for many years. After the funeral the wake was held at the Central Coast Leagues Club where we caught up with more of Greg's friends - Martin, Len, Tracey & her children Tori & Joel as well as Shane & Rod. It was good to be able to chat with them as we do not often have the chance to catch up.
Saturday 28th August 2010 we did some catch up shopping & called in to a wholesale plant nursery that I had been told about & picked up six Lilly Pillies for the Golf Club. There was to be a wedding in the wedding garden at the Golf Club so I spent the morning getting the wedding garden & surrounds in pristine condition for the wedding. It was a lovely day, just perfect for weddings and gardening.
Sunday 29th August 2010 we started in our traditional way having Rod & Joel for breakfast & this week Shane came as well so we had a nice relaxing morning & had some good quality time with Joel. Sam called in for a cup of tea mid morning so that was a good catchup with the kids. At 11 o'clock we left for golf. Today was the second round of the Mixed Team Series & our playing partners today were Kerry & Norma Cubis. It was a beautiful day & the course was in great condition so it was a pleasure to be out there. Kerry & Norma are always good company & we did have some highlights along the way. Our team did not do so well as the leaders came in with some outstanding scores so I think we will be making up the numbers in the third round next month. We stayed for dinner at the club with Kerry & Norma & some of our other golfing friends.
Monday 30th August was F-Troop Day & I was flat out all day with many different tasks to do including picking up some azaleas & pansies from the local nursery who are lending us the plants for display at our "Spring Carnival" day tomorrow. The F-Troopers worked on the picket fence at the 18th tee garden & I was lucky enough to have three of the girls volunteer to help with the garden work today so it was a very successful day.
Tuesday 31st August 2010 (Dad's birthday) I was at the club at 6.45 am to get the plants out ready for display at the 1st tee. The "Spring Carnival" day was well organised by the committee girls & we had a beautiful spring day to enjoy the course. The greens were under maintenance so that meant that we had to play the same 9 holes twice. We had 9 holes where we had to do something different at every hole ie 1st hole was the straightest drive, the 2nd hole was nearest shot to the "pot plant" etc etc. At the 5th hole we had to drive with a (for want of a better word) zig zag driver which was hilarious. The greens were all sanded so all our putting was "hit & hope". My playing partners were Shirley Daly & Elizabeth MacNamara & we had a great day. My highlight of the day was winning a ball for 21 points on the first 9.
Wednesday 1st September 2010 I spent the day at the Golf Club potting up the six Lilly Pillies for the top balcony which took me a long time to do. I also planted at the 18th tee a plant that had been donated to the club. By the time I had done a bit of weeding and watering the day was gone.
Thursday 2nd September 2010 (today) We were back at the Golf Club again this time to help clean up the room that is going to be the new Member's Lounge. Floors to be washed & windows to be cleaned so that the painters can start their work on Monday. In the afternoon I went out into the gardens again & started to trim & weed the Tibouchinas at the 2nd. Once again another full day. We had some light rain overnight & more this afternoon which is good for the garden.
Next week should be a more relaxing week with not so much to do.
