Thursday 30th July 2009

Wednesday 29th July I had a lovely day in Sydney travelling by train to the Lyric Theatre at Star City Casino with some of the golf girls. We caught an early train to get us to the waterfront in time for morning coffee in the beautiful sunshine, lunch and wine at the noodle bar in a nice comfortable time to see "Chicago" at 1.00 o'clock. It was a great show which we all enjoyed and we were safely home by 5.30 pm. Photo attached of us outside the casino.
Thursday 30th July 2009 was a big golf day being the first round of the Ladies Singles Knock Out. My playing partners today were Yvonne Wilson (my opposition), Christine Drakeford and Linda Rankin. We had a really nice day out in some really beautiful sunshine. Linda & I won our matches and we have to move to Round 2 Thursday of next week.
I am now preparing for and looking forward to a few days at Moree to help Lorraine celebrate her 60th birthday. Watch for photos from that.

Tuesday 28th July 2009

This last week or so has been so full on I have not had time to get my blog up to date. Everyday has been busy, busy, busy.
Monday 20th our Gosford Golf Club hosted the Central Coast Women's Golf Seniors Day which was quite a big event with all the club's on the Central Coast participating. I played with ladies from Toukley, Terrigal and Everglades and we had a lovely day - highlighted by our girl from Toukley winning our division. I had to hurry away from golf to make a Doctors appointment for a health check & to get a whooping cough injection to protect our little Joel.
Tuesday 21st I played golf at Gosford in a Par Event which is not my favourite. My playing partners were Julie Hazzard and Helen Stuart & we managed to have a fun day. The course was still wet underfoot which made it heavy going and it was an uncomfortably cold day which did not help.
Wednesday 22nd I went off for a blood test as part of my health check & then I spent the rest of the day spreading out 'blood and bone' fertilizer on my gardens at home. It was an unseasonably hot day so I enjoyed my day in the sunshine.
Thursday 23rd was another day at golf participating in a Singles KO qualifying round. My playing partners were Julie Hazzard and Annette Dunk. It was much nicer weather than Tuesday and we all qualified to enter the Singles KO starting next week. Thursday evening it poured with rain - so the course was back wet again.
Friday 24th was a busy day. We visited George & Tosca in the morning to have a catch up, called in to see Anne and Joel on the way home. The rest of the day was shopping around searching for garden bench seats and a feature for the golf club gardens. After browsing most of the hardware & nursery stores I checked out a little place at Ourimbah that sells garden furniture and ornaments and I found just what I was looking for as a feature for the new garden at the golf course. They also had some garden bench seats so we did a deal & got a discount for bulk buying. The Bench seats are coming from Queensland so we will not have them until next week. The garden is now getting very close to being complete.
Friday night we had a "Team Bonding" night at a local Italian Restaurant. We have a "Mixed Team Series" event coming up at the golf club that is very fiercely contested so a team bonding night seemed appropriate. The restaurant had live entertainment and that night it was a "Motown" music night. The singers were quite good and entertaining & we all had a good night.
Saturday 25th after household shopping we spent a whole day at the golf club adding mulch and plants to the garden and securing the new garden feature in place. There was a wedding in the garden that afternoon & we just got everything done in time.
Sunday 26th was the long awaited first round of the mixed team series. Our team partners were Iris Talbot and Ian Mitchell. Ian excelled himself by scoring 38 points for our team.
The winners on the day got 108 team points and we finished with 103 so we are only five points behind the pace with two more rounds to go. I played well enough to win a ball so that was my highlight.
Monday 27th was an F-Troop day at the golf club & I worked there until one o'clock. Then it was back to the doctors for the results of my health check. Happily all is well & I have no physical problems to worry about. Shane & Sam and Rod & Anne came to dinner for a "Mum's Lamb Roast" . We now have a baby rocker in-house in readiness for Joel's visits. Joel is doing well and I saw him smile for the first time (more like a gummy grin) . Photo attached of Joel in his new rocker.
Tuesday 28th (today) I was back for more punishment at golf - playing in the Monthly Medal Stroke Round. My playing partners today were Rosalie Dyer & Yvonne Wilson. We reckon that if all the "almost in" putts went in we would have been world beaters. At least it was great weather for golf and the course is starting to dry out again.
Tomorrow I am off to Sydney to see "Chicago" with the golf girls. I have seen the show before and I am looking forward to seeing it again. We always go somewhere nice for lunch and make a day of it.
Thursday is the first round of the Singles Knock Out at golf and Friday we leave for a long weekend at Moree to help Lorraine celebrate her 60th birthday.
Hopefully I will find more time after that to keep this blog up to date. I keep the "Golfers" blog up to date on a daily basis as there are a lot of followers of the golf results. There just are not hours in the day sometimes.

Sunday 19th July 2009

I have had a huge week - mainly with the two G's (Gardening and golfing).
Sunday 12th we were lucky enough to get some good weather for golf and I managed to play an 'alright' golf game coming in with the "runner up" trophy for the day. Our playing partners were Terry and Sandra Coyle. We had a very competative day for the keno ticket which the boys won by matching our good efforts at just about every hole.
Monday 13th was F- Troop day which was a very busy clean up day after the wet weather & damaged paths etc. I spent most of the day planting out cutting and trimming trees etc.
Tuesday 14th was another golf day with the girls. My playing partners were Julie Hazzard and Jan Walker. Our golf was not wonderful but they were great company. It was a freezing cold day with an icy wind. I had three layers of clothes on all day - not my favourite type of weather.
Wednesday 15th I spent most of the day working on pruning the roses & tidying the gardens between showers.
Thursday 16th we had a special 'theme day' at ladies golf where we all had to come dressed as something from a 'song' title. My Team for the day was Yvonne Wilson, Rosalie Dyer and Julie Curren and our choice was "Buttons and Bows". I showed you previously the results of our sewing day at Rosie's last Saturday when we made up our outfits. We had a great fun day and our team managed to win a ball. Thursday night we had a huge downpour of rain which has redamaged the course again for the next week.
Friday 16th was another full day in my garden at home finishing off the pruning of the roses in the back yard. It is a big job & I was happy to make good progess & got the majority of the pruning done. Friday night there was to be a Wine and Cheese night at the club but when we got there the night had been cancelled through lack of numbers so I was not too unhappy to get home early after a big day in the garden & buying some plants for the golf club.
Saturday 17th I pruned the last of the roses and after the mandatory grocery shop the rest of the day was spent at the golf club planting in the new plants I had purchased & spread out some mulch on the new gardens.
Today, Sunday the 19th we had a visit from Rod, Anne & Joel - so we could get our weekly cuddle. Joel is doing well as are his proud parents. Graham & Anne had decided to have a game of golf at Gosford today & called in on their way through to the club & managed to catch up with Rod &, Anne & Joel.
Our playing partners today at golf were Mark & Anne Stimpson. It was a lovely warm sunny day so we all enjoyed being out on the course. The boys played well & won the keno ticket.
After golf we all stayed back for dinner at the club & Shane & Sam joined us there for a couple of hours so we could have a catch up with them.
It has been a big, full on week which is not going to change much next week as I am playing golf tomorrow in a special "seniors" day, playing again on Tuesday in a par match. Wednesday I am going to finish fetilizing the back gardens and Thursday I am back at golf again which is the singles KO qualifying round. Never a dull moment!

Saturday 11th July 2009

There has been much to do this week (between showers) with golf and gardening.
On Sunday our playing partners were June & Russ Hayes & we were lucky enough to get good weather and the course has been improving every day. Rod, Anne & Joel joined us for dinner at the golf club which gave us a chance to show Joel off to all the members.
Monday was a good day for F-Troop work where we had a lot of cleaning up to do after all the wild weather of the previous week.
Tuesday was a cold day however we did not get any rain which made for a good day at golf. My playing partners were Jan Walker & Julie Hazzard playing in a 3BBB vs PAR match. We had some good highlights during the day but not enough to win any trophies.
Wednesday, Thursday & Friday I spent in the garden pruning the roses and tidying up between showers which got rather frustrating at times with the wet and cold - South of France sounds nice for this time next year! Anne brought Joel over for a visit which brightened my day.
Today, Saturday, I met up with Rosalie and Yvonne at Rosalie's house to make some outfits for us to wear at next Thursday's dress up theme day at golf. The theme is to dress like a song title.
We have chosen "Buttons and Bows" (if you can't work that out from the photos above). We had a lovely day making the outfits from old curtains & managed to fit in a nice lunch and a wine along the way. We thought we had done rather well with the total costs of the 4 outfits working out at $7 each.

Saturday 4th July 2009

The first week in July always means the start of intensive gardening as it is the time to prune my roses. I have had a very busy week and some nice sunshine has been very helpful.
Sunday was a lovely day for golf. The course was still very wet underfoot but we have a nice day with our playing partners Ron & Lynn Puiatti. The boys played well and won the keno ticket.
Sunday evening was a meet and greet night for all the lady Veterans participating in the two day vets tournament held on Monday and Tuesday. I opted to play on Tuesday so that would leave me free for F-Troop work on Monday.
Monday I finished trimming back all the crepe myrtle trees on the 9th and tidying up an area that was well away from the girls golfing. Then I tidied up the Ladies garden on the 13th so it is all finished and up to date until spring.
Tuesday I had a nice day at golf playing with Margaret Eisner who was an ex member of Gosford now playing in Sydney and two visitors Annette and Jan. Jan was with a group of 22 visitors from Nelson's Bay. It was a cool and overcast day but fortunately did not rain. After golf we had a scramble to get the display plants (on loan) back to the nursery & still have time for drinks and nibbles and presentation. It was a big tournament for the vet's ladies having about 170 players participating.
Wednesday I had a relax day - hairdressers in the morning and a "Joel" fix in the afternoon.
Joel is doing well and getting cuter every day. Anne and Rod are both managing well and are great parents.
Thursday I launched into my rose pruning mode - starting with the roses at the golf club and moving to my own garden in the afternoon. All this rain has been great for the garden but also encourages the weeds so I have a big job ahead. I managed to fill a green bin & put a small dent in the front gardens. It was a freezing cold day with a very bitter wind so I was not too keen to stay out there all day.
Friday was another onslaught on the front gardens filling another green bin. The wind was not as cold today so I managed to get a bit more done before my energy levels dropped.
Today, Saturday after a grocery shop , was a repeat of Friday filling yet another bin and managing to get most of the roses and weeds in the front garden under control.
I have been amazed at how many roses have been blooming right up to the first week in July.
My "Perfect Moment" rose and "The Childrens Rose" are the first to bloom come spring and are the last to stop flowering this year. I still had a bloom on the climbing "Brandy".
All the camelias are out in bloom (photos attached), the pansies are flowering well and I have some nice "snappies" and "Jonquils" are starting to flower so there is plenty of colour in the garden until the roses come back in spring.
I am about one third of the way through the roses - so guess what I will be doing next week!
