This week went quickly enough with some mixed weather days.
Wednesday 9th January 2013 the weather predictions were in the high 30's. Peter went to golf and I had an R & R day enjoying the air conditioning and doing a few odd jobs.
Thursday 10th January 2013 We had Rod, Joel and Emily for the day. I kept Joel and Emily occupied while Peter started on replacing some of the support wires for the roses with something more suitable that does not cook the roses in high heat. Rod did a great job of cleaning the sky lights and the light panels on the roof which made the house look a whole lot better. Anne has been working all week while Rod had some holidays.
Friday 11th January 2013 we were up early to go to the Golf Course to give the tibouchinas a good water. They suffered in the high heat of last Tuesday so they needed to be watered well before the next hot day coming up on the weekend. We were home by 9 o'clock and Rod dropped Joel & Emily over while he did some shopping. Anne was doing a double shift so the kids stayed all day and we took them to the club that evening for dinner as Peter was on raffle duty. The kids were tired by then and Rod took them home to bed about 7.30. Rod won a meat tray in the raffle so that was a bonus.
Saturday 12th January 2013 the temperature was due to hit 42 degrees. We were up early to do the household shopping as Peter was going to golf. Again I found things to do inside in the air conditioning. I have been watering the gardens in the early morning or late evening so the gardens stay alive.
Sunday 13th January 2013 we went over to Bunnings and got a few things. I stocked up on rose fertilizer and soil treatment as it was time to get the roses prepared for their March display. Peter did some more work on the fencing and I started on systematically weeding, fertilizing and treating each of the roses and managed to get the side garden completed. I got the garden sprayed for black spot and fungus and no sooner had I done it that it started raining. So that part of my work was a waste of time. That evening we (Peter & I and another Club Director) went out to the Shelly Beach Golf Club to represent the Gosford Club at a District function. Shelly Beach is a lovely Golf Course with beautiful ocean views. It was very late by the time I updated the Golfers Blog after we got home. We had heavy rain that evening so that relieved the gardens.
Monday 14th January 2013 we were up early for the 7.00am F-Troop start. The day was much cooler which made our work more comfortable. We lasted until 12.30 and then called it a day as we were tired from yesterday. That afternoon I had a dental appointment to repair a damaged tooth. Fortunately I had not done too much damage and had the problem promptly fixed by my long time dentist and came home with some change out of $100 which impressed me.
Tuesday 15th January 2013 (today) I was up early to get some more fertilizing and trimming done in the front gardens. At 11 o'clock I had to go out to Erina to have a CT guided injection of steroid into my right foot where I have been suffering from arthritis for some time. It was fascinating to watch how they pin point the injection to the exact right spot by looking at a CT image on the screen. The injection was painful but not unbearable and I feel as though it was placed in the right spot. So hopefully I will now have some pain free evenings when my arthritis used to cause me some grief. Time will tell. My foot is still a bit sensitive tonight but understandably so. Again this procedure did not hit us in the hip pocket as it is all done through medicare.
This afternoon I was back in the garden continuing my mission to finish the roses. Shane called around after work and on his way to play bowls. He stayed for a couple of beers and we had a good chat.
There was another break & enter and a car stolen from our street again today so we have to remember to stay vigilant at this time of the year there seem to be more low life around.
The last couple of days have been pleasant but the predictions are that the weather will hot up after tomorrow and be back up to 42 degrees on Saturday.
