Wednesday 11th August 2010

This week or so has been full on with every day filled with either golf, golf buggy room renovations, golf club gardens or my gardens at home. We have had so much rain this month that it has been a real nuisance both with my gardening schedule & the golf course maintenance programme not to mention my golf games. Our golf was washed out on Tuesday 3rd August and we had to play in the rain for the first round of the Club Championships on Tuesday 10th August which did not impress me much. I am a fair weather player & the results of my game are reflective of that. We have to play our second round of the Championships tomorrow so I am hoping desperately for a fine day.
Tuesday 3rd August 2010 our scheduled golf day was cancelled due to bad weather so I spent the day working at the Pro Shop renovations painting the buggy room walls. I bought some wall decorations for the Ladies Buggy Room to add some "Karma" to the room & to soften the look of a rather stark room. I was happy with the results.
Wednesday 4th August I spent the whole day pruning my roses and weeding the gardens in my back yard. All the rain we have got this month has encouraged an enormous growth in the plants but unfortunately the weeds appreciated it too. I had wall to wall weeds to remove & the gardens looked much better after their makeover.
Thursday 5th August 2010 we had a working bee day at the Pro Shop buggy room renovations where F-Troop worked on the recycled wall panelling & I did some more painting of the walls and floor of the buggy room.
Friday 6th August 2010 I firstly did some more rose pruning and weeding of the back gardens at home & then spent the afternoon back over at the Pro Shop working on the Pro Shop renovations.
Saturday 7th August 2010 I spent the whole day over at the Pro Shop Buggy Room renovations this time in the new buggy room where the walls are nearing completion. It is all coming together really well.
Sunday 8th August 2010 Rod Anne & Joel had the weekend away so we did not see them for their traditional breakfast. Instead I finished up the last of my rose pruning & some more weeding of the back gardens. I only have one more climbing rose to attend to & some weeding & trimming in the far back gardens & it will look respectable. The roses are not looking interesting in their pruned state but I still have a lot of colour in the garden as the camellias & azaleas are all bursting into flower which will keep it nice to look at until spring. In the afternoon we played golf with Annie & Bert Brink. They were great company & we had a lovely sunny day which helped. My highlight was coming in 3rd place in the ladies singles & we beat the boys for the keno ticket. We stayed at the club for dinner with Annie & Bert & a few of our other friends at the club.
Monday 9th August 2010 was F-Troop Day & we had a good turn up of helpers. We used the discarded carpet from the Pro Shop for weed matting in the front gardens of the golf club & then covered the garden with woodchip mulch. That took us all morning so it was a very busy day.
I have entered the Golf Club Gardens in the Local Council Garden Competition which will be judged about the middle of September so I will need to be out in the gardens a lot between now & then.
Tuesday 10th August 2010 was the first Round of the Ladies Championships. It had rained overnight & continued to rain for the rest of the day. Because it had not rained enough to close the course then the golf had to go ahead. "Not Happy Jan" I am a fair weather golfer & do not enjoy playing in constant rain. My playing partners were Bev Adams & Sharon Anderson & we struggled through the conditions. Sharon was the star of our group & won a ball. I am hoping that the weather will be kinder for round two this coming Thursday. After golf we went shopping for more paint & tools that we need for tomorrow's work at the club.
Wednesday 11th August 2010 (today) I was back for another day at the Pro Shop renovations this time to paint the final coat on the walls & start the cut in for the floor painting. We had a nice sunny day with a brisk breeze which will be good for drying out the course. The Pro Shop renovations have been a lot of work but well worth the effort to see the place looking fresh & new. It is all starting to come together nicely & hopefully it will be a place that we can enjoy for many years to come.
