Saturday 5th September 2009

It has been another busy week with perfect weather for golf and gardening which keeps me happy. We had a nice shower of rain on Thusday afternoon (after golf had finished) with more showers overnight to finish before golf on Friday - so that was just perfect for golf & gardens as the greens had been sanded on Monday & Tuesday so the rain was made to order.
Friday 28th August I had a day at the golf course setting in some more ornamental decorations on the Ladies garden to replace those that had been destroyed by vandals. I fertilized, weeded & watered that garden and then cleaned up some loose timber lying around the course. A big day.
Saturday 29th August I spent in the garden at home generally tidying up.
Sunday 30th August was another big day with Shane, Rod, Anne and Joel coming for breakfast pancakes. Shane was just back from Bali and looked healthy and suntanned. We had to leave for golf at 10 o'clock as we had an early hit off in the team series second round. Our team did very well on the day coming in with the same score as the winner and runner up - we were beaten on a countback. I had a good day & came in with 40 points (just needed 41 points to win the team event). Our team is coming second in the teams event after the second round and I am coming 4th in the singles event. (You can click on the scoreboard image to enlarge it to viewing size - press your "back" key to get back to this page.) The third and final round will be held on the last Sunday in September so we will need to be in top form for that.
Monday 31st August was an F-Troop day where we did some work on the native garden at the club preparing it for refurbishment. After F-Troop I had a lot of fun selecting and purchasing some native plants - mainly grevilleas to plant in the garden hopefully next week.
Tuesday 1st September I was booked to play 18 holes of golf. My friend Heather lost her brother Ivan the previous week and his funeral was to be at 1.30 at Palmdale. We have known Ivan for many years through Heather and also with his association with cricket and football.
I decided to only play 9 holes to allow me time to get to Palmdale. My playing partners were Yvonne Wilson and Rosalie Dyer and Yvonne went on to win the day in our division. On the way home from Paldale we called into the Ourimbah Garden world & I came out with some new roses and a couple of native plants. This year I have added another three icebergs, Chicago peace, Peace standard, Angel Face, Just Joey, Sexy Rexy, Make a wish, Makybe Diva and three miniature roses to my collection. (Just can't help myself). After calling into the golf club on the way home to pick up the result slip for the day (to do the golfer's blog) and have a chat with the players about the day's play - it was a pretty big day.
Wednesday 2nd September I had my first official babysit of Joel while Anne had her hair done.
Joel behaved beautifully and slept for most of the time. We had some nice cuddles before I came home to do some more work in my garden - putting out some fertilizer on the front gardens and giving it a good water in. Shane & Sam came for dinner & we heard all about their Bali holiday. It sounded such a beautiful place that I have put it on my schedule for next year (hopefully).
Thursday 3rd September I was back at golf again. My playing partners were Rosie Judd and Robyn Phillips and we had a lovely day. I had another good score (runner up in my division) and lost another stroke (after losing two shots on Sunday). The weather stayed beautiful until after we finished golf and then started to shower right through the night which was fantastic for the gardens and also the golf course as the greens had just been sanded.
Friday 4th September I went hunting again for another terracotta pot to replace the one that got broken in the wind storm. I did not have any luck as I have had the pots for some years I may have to do a mix and match. I called into the Native Garden nursery at Erina & picked up another four grevilleas for the Native Garden at the club. My hairdryer spat the dummy yesterday so I replaced that with a new one, had lunch at Erina Fair & had a bit of a browse through the shops. Later in the afternoon Rod & Anne called in to drop off Rod's work truck so that we can get it ready for registration while they are away in Queensland to attend a family wedding. They were leaving in the early hours of the morning to beat the traffic.
Saturday 5th September (today) was a grocery shopping day followed by a full day in the garden finishing off the fertilizing & weeding. The green bins are empty again now ready for me to attack the rest of the bougainvillea at the back fence. That is my challenge for next week. I had a text from Anne to say thet they had arrived safely at the Gold Coast so I could rest easy about them being on the road.
