Tuesday 10th June 2008

Well, so much for the long weekend....not too much done here! My new four drawer filing cabinet arrived on Saturday so I spent the weekend sorting out all my travel and tax files that have been waiting for my attention for some time. Photo attached of the cupboard & the new space on my floor where all my travel bags used to be ( now waiting for my new computer desk).
I have all my travel records at finger tip control now. "A" for Amsterdam; "P" for Paris; etc etc.
This is something I should have done long ago. It was a good wet weather job anyway.
Rod & Anne went to Sydney on Saturday night to see the Phantom of the Opera - a new cultural experience for Rod. They left their car at our place overnight & ended up spending Sunday with us when they got back from Sydney. The Golf Course was closed - so shock/horror - no golf.
We had dinner at the Golf Club on Sunday night just to give the club some support as the course has been closed for most of the week. It has been a desolate place with no golfers around. Dinner was really good & it is a shame that more people do not take advantage of the club facilities.
Monday we had our friends from Sydney call in for morning tea. Jim & Roslyn Giles are people that we met when we travelled to Canada for a holiday in 2000. The Sydney group that we met on the trip that year have stayed in touch & we meet as regularly as we can. Jim and Roslyn are doing the same Europe River Cruise in August this year that we did in 2006. We had loaned them our photos etc to help them make up their mind about booking the trip. We had as pleasant morning catching up & reminising about our travels.
It continued to shower on and off during the day so I could not motivate myself out into the garden so I busied myself with the travel documents I have to prepare for our October Tour group to China. We have got 26 starters now - so that is good.
Today was the replay of the Foursomes Championships that was washed out last Tuesday. We have had so much rain that the course was still very heavy today & it did manage to rain on us during the match. My partner Rosemary Cohen & I did not do so well today. We were looking okay last week & would have had a good chance of a win. We had a slow front 9 so it was all a bit hard from there although we did pick up for the back nine. It was very wet underfoot even when it did manage to fine up & the best score in our division was a nett 80 - so nobody really played that well. I did manage to sink a really good 30 foot putt on the 13th - so that will take me back next week.
Images attached: With my partner today - Rosemary Cohen; the course today - all mud & slush ( it was a case of miss the puddle); with Jim & Roslyn on Monday; some vacant floorspace in my new "my space" room; the new filing cabinet.
