Another incredibly busy week has flown by. We have had some reprieve from bad weather but the rain arrived back today - just in time for Melbourne Cup day.
Tuesday 26th October 2010 we had a Team Stableford - 2 scores to count shotgun 8.00 am start & my playing partners were Helen Stuart & Elizabeth McNamara. We had a lovely pleasant day but did not get any trophies as we were one player short in our team which made it difficult to compete. We had a good day & the weather was kind. Following the golf we had the Ladies AGM which was without drama. Today our new Golf Cart was delivered while I was out playing golf. Peter took delivery & met me out on the course at the 18th giving the cart a run. (photo attached). When the AGM was over I dashed down to the cart sheds so that I could take the cart for a burn - only to find that Peter had spent the day concreting a security chain in concrete to the floor so I could not take the cart out. We are very happy with the cart. All seems to be in order which was good. The cart has a wet weather bag cover, an esky, ball & club washer, split windscreen & ceiling storage net. The blue panels and seat covers are new as are the batteries so we are hoping for many years of golfing service from our cart.
Wednesday 27th October 2010 I spent in the gardens at home - deadheading & spraying the roses. A restful day pottering about.
Thursday 28th October 2010 I met with Fred Middleton at the golf club to split up & plant the orchids in the garden at the 1st tee. I was up early so I could transport the orchids (still in their original pots) to the club. I could only fit in 3 pots at a time so I had to do two trips just to get them there. We had a great time doing the orchids. Fred is an orchid specialist & he showed me some good tips when dealing with orchids. The garden looks good so I was very happy with our efforts. After that I cleaned up around the garden area then planted some African Daisies (that had been donated to us ) out at the garden at the 17th. After that it was back to the cart shed to clean the shed up & to fit another cart in next door. The shed doors have now been secured as best we can do. I picked up the Thursday Ladies results so I could go home and update the golfers blog.
Friday 29th October 2010 was Shane's 39th birthday so we started the day with a call to him. Peter is playing golf on Saturday so we decided to catch up with the household shopping today so that leaves Saturday free for me to garden at home which was on my schedule. After shopping I went over to the Golf Club to re-pot some plants at the wedding garden. During the last windstorm one of the pots had been blown over & broken so I had to re-pot both of the plants as they had to have matching colours. When I got the plants out I was bitten on the wrist by some ants that were not happy about being disturbed. They certainly gave me a good sting & my wrist is still unhappy. The plants re-potted well so I was happy about that. I decided that I may as well tidy up the wedding garden area while I was at it & weeded the garden at the back of the putting green. When I got home Shane called in home on his way home from work to see us for his birthday. I had bought him some new "Hugo Boss" after shave for his birthday which he seemed happy with.
Saturday 30th October 2010 was a very hot day. I went into Gosford to drop off some drycleaning and to choose a birthday present for Peter (he is getting a Navman so he does not get lost in traffic & a GPS system for the golf cart so he knows his distances to the greens), picked up a pair of shoes & matching bag to wear for the Melbourne Cup so my outfit will be complete. I spent the rest of the day in the gardens at home & completely forgot that I was supposed to be attending the presentation of trophies for the Men's Championships at 5.30. I got a call from the club & had to drop everything and rush over to get the photos & results for the blog.
Sunday 31st October 2010 our day started early with Rod, Anne, Joel & Shane coming over for breakfast prior to us rushing off for golf at 10 o'clock. We had to play 27 holes of stroke in the Club Foursomes Championships. We were obviously a bit tired as neither one of us played good golf and had a woeful score. Our playing partners were Wally & Rhonda Robertson, Warren Gray & Mary Bromwich who were, luckily, great company so our day was not all bad. We stayed for dinner with them after golf so it was a good social day & pity about the golf.
Monday 1st November 2010 (today) we were up before dawn as we had to be at the club at 5.30am to set up the BBQ. F-Troop were running the BBQ for a vets tournament day as well as doing our normal F-Troop work. It was a full on morning with the BBQ going well and we had 20 volunteers to do work at the club which was great. We got rained out by 11.30 so we had to halt the garden work but continued the BBQ until 12.30pm. This afternoon we had to go shopping for some goodies for Melbourne Cup Day. Peter is hosting a dozen of his mates here for a BBQ & to watch the race while I go to golf, lunch, fashion Parade & watch the race with the girls over at the club. I have to get pavlovas & salads ready now for tomorrow.
In the morning I need to be up early to cut roses to decorate the luncheon tables at the club, do the last minute salad items, be at golf by 7.30 am for an 8 o'clock shotgun start, rush home after golf to change into race fashion frock & hat, rush back to the club for lunch etc etc. After the race we are coming home to meet the boys here - so it will be a long day. I think I am looking forward to Wednesday to have a rest.
